Authentic Assessment, What does this mean?

authentic assessment can be multiple-choice questions or selected response type assignment. 

Authentic Assessment is...

Can be both formal + Informal Checks for Understanding THAT PRODUCE evidence of learning.

Discussion Prompts can help gauge what learners have learned. 

Acknowledgement of the material encourages greater order thinking to construct knowledge. 

Performance assignments include tasks that reveal the application of knowledge and skills that display evidence of knowledge. 

Black and Wiliam (1989) categorized the purpose of assessments into three statements; assessment is designed to collect data on the accomplishments of individuals,assessment is meant to support student development, and assessment meets the demands for accountability.

Assessment Types:

Checking for  Authenticity

  1. Does the design improve learning?

  2. Is it process-oriented?  

  3. Can the design identify areas for improvement?

  4. Does it contain "transferable skills" in the structure of real-world approaches?
